Mekenzie Wooten is an Austin native who was raised in Taylor, Texas, where her passion for dance began at just three years old. With a background in competitive dance, high school drill team, collegiate dance, and performance, she has spent much of her life learning, growing, and finding new ways to share her love for the art of dance with others.
Mekenzie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Dance Education from Texas Tech University in May 2023. Throughout her collegiate career, she explored various dance styles, choreography, performance, and dance education while remaining actively involved in campus organizations, including Chi Tau Epsilon and Vitality Dance Company. Her experiences as both a performer and educator have shaped her approach to teaching, leadership, and student development.
Now in her fourth year in Pflugerville ISD and serving as the Assistant Dance Director at Connally High School, Mekenzie is passionate about creating an environment where students are challenged to grow, encouraged to express themselves, and supported in becoming confident, accountable, and well-rounded individuals. She believes dance is about more than technique and performance; it is an opportunity to build discipline, resilience, teamwork, and lifelong skills that extend far beyond the studio. She enjoys assisting the Varsity Stars Dance Team, coaching the Emeralds JV Dance Team and working with the dance classes!
Outside of the dance studio, Mekenzie enjoys spending time with her husband, James, her high school sweetheart. They are excited to welcome their first child in 2027. Mekenzie is grateful for the opportunity to invest in the Connally community and looks forward to continuing to grow as an educator, mentor, and leader alongside her students.
